Wang Huaiqing has found his unique art language in 1980s and has kept his style since then. He has the outstanding ability of transferring traditional Chinese furniture into abstract objects. The Two Become One is produced in this way. The chief objects in the painting are two traditional chairs which are depicted in black. The black of the chairs contrasts sharply with the white and britht grey of the background. To combine traditional Chinese furniture with modern western art would easily lead to the lack of harmony in a painting. But Wang Huaiqing has found a perfect solution to this problem. His painting is completely a contemporary art work, while remains the spirit of Chinese traditional culture. Moreover, Wang Huaiqing has expressed his own emotions in the painting. The two chairs could be regarded as a loving couple. They are sitting next to each other and are talking about the beautiful days that they have spent together. Wang Huaiqing is not only a sensitive artist, but also a rational designer, which could be seen in the perfect arrangement of the lines and textures. By titling the painting “2=1”, Wang Huaiqing is telling the fact that he has melt Chinese cultures into western art, traditions into contemporary languages, and emotions into rational.
